There are literally hundreds of different drugs and some of them are known by several different names or nicknames.
So we’ve broken them down by the various types of drugs and the effects they have.
Cannabinoids
These can create a relaxed and euphoric state of mind often called being stoned. They can also cause paranoia and impair memory.
Depressants
Often called “downers” these aid relaxation and boost confidence. But they can also lead to unconsciousness and even death.
Dissociatives
Users feel detached from reality. They can also experience anxiety and a lack of control over movements.
Empathogens
Users often feel sensations of warmth, connectedness and arousal. But they may also experience mood swings and depression.
Psychedelics
Users experience images and sensations that seem real but are not. They may also feel anxiety, panic and extreme mood swings.

Commonly called uppers, these can cause increased energy, faster heart rate and euphoria but also feelings of paranoia and anxiety.
