Mephedrone is now classified as a Class B drug

Mephedrone and related cathinones are now controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. From the 16th April 2010, they became classified as Class B drugs, meaning that they are illegal to be sold and illegal to possess. The consequences of Class B classification are now a maximum penalty of 5 years in jail and an unlimited fine for possession and 14 years and unlimited fine for supply. The importation of these substances into the country has already been banned.

Cannabis has been reclassified from Class C to Class B

In May 2008 the Home Secretary decided to reclassify cannabis from Class C to Class B. This came into effect on Monday 26 January 2009. read more

‘Legal High’ Methoxetamine to be banned

The UK Government has announced that the ‘legal high’ Methoxetamine (also known as MXE, mexxy, MKET and roflcoptr) will be subject to a temporary class drug order for up to 12 months. This means that from Thursday 5th April 2012 it will be illegal to sell or supply MXE, including giving it away to friends. read more
