Freerunning with Know the Score
Posted on: Tuesday 16th March 2010
What are your limits? Freerunning (also known as Parkour) is the latest urban sport to hit Scotland’s streets – running without limits. It’s an activity that combines physical strength and fast thinking to move through any environment regardless of obstacles, using only the body.
Know the Score are holding a series of free freerunning events in locations across Scotland. Launching at Glasgow’s Caledonian University on Friday 19th March, freerunning events will also be held in Kilmarnock, Dumfries, Dundee, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Inverness over the coming weeks.
The sessions are free of charge and open to complete beginners, so if you’ve ever though of giving it a go, now is the time to do it.
The activity, made famous in the James Bond movie “Casino Royale”, marks the latest phase of the Know the Score campaign, which raises awareness amongst Scotland’s youth of the dangers of using cocaine.
Each event will begin with a freerunning demonstration by two of Scotland’s premier instructors, Chris Grant and Scott Houston. Both trained with Sebastien Foucan – the French founder of freerunning who appeared in the opening scenes of Casino Royale with Brit actor Daniel Craig.
You’ll then learn the fundamentals of Parkour, important in helping you get started and avoiding classic mistakes.
There are only 30 places available per location and these will be allocated on a first come basis – so jump to it and find out more at our Facebook page: http://facebook.com/freerunningwithknowthescore
