What are ‘legal highs’?
‘Legal Highs’ are substances which produce the same, or similar effects, to drugs such as cocaine and ecstasy, but are not controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act. They are however, considered illegal under current medicines legislation to sell, supply or advertise for “human consumption”. To get round this sellers refer to them as research chemicals, plant food, bath crystals or pond cleaner. Read more...

Mephedrone and related cathinones are now controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. From the 16th April 2010, they became classified as Class B drugs, meaning that they are illegal to be sold and illegal to possess. The consequences of Class B classification are now a maximum penalty of 5 years in jail and an unlimited fine for possession and 14 years and unlimited fine for supply. The importation of these substances into the country has already been banned.

Mephedrone looks set to become an illegal drug

The UK Government announced that it is set to ban mephedrone and related cathinones under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. As long as UK Parliament agrees, it will be controlled as a Class B drug on the 16th April 2010, meaning that it will be illegal to be sold and illegal to possess. The UK Government has also placed an immediate ban on the importation of these substances into the country.

Freerunning with Know the Score

What are your limits? Freerunning (also known as Parkour) is the latest urban sport to hit Scotland’s streets – running without limits. It’s an activity that combines physical strength and fast thinking to move through any environment regardless of obstacles, using only the body. Know the Score are holding a series of free freerunning events in locations across Scotland. Launching at Glasgow’s Caledonian University on Friday 19th March, freerunning events will also be held in Kilmarnock, Dumfries, Dundee, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Inverness over the coming weeks. Cannabis has been reclassified from Class C to Class B

In May 2008 the Home Secretary decided to reclassify cannabis from Class C to Class B. This came into effect on Monday 26 January 2009. read more
Not Everyone’s Doing What You Think

The number of young Scots who smoke has fallen to its lowest level in almost 30 years a survey has found. Latest statistics show in 2010 just 3 per cent of 13 year olds and 13 per cent of 15 year olds are regular smokers, smoking at least one cigarette a week. read more
