The Scottish Government is responsible for drugs policy, and for providing funding to support a wide range of services in Scotland. The Government's Drug Strategy is built on four key themes: tackling the availability of drugs in Scottish communities; treating and rehabilitating those who have developed drug problems; engaging with communities and protecting them from drug-related crime; and, evaluating and informing young people about the risks from drugs. The Strategy is delivered in partnership with Scotland's 30 Alcohol & Drug Partnerships, and with statutory and voluntary organisations.

The National Drug Misuse in Scotland website is managed by the Drug Misuse Information Strategy Team of ISD Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Executive. The aim of this site is to inform those involved in tackling Scotland's problem drug use and act as a national focal point for professionals and other interested parties by allowing instant dissemination of information and good practice.

NHS Health Scotland came into operation on 1 April 2003 following a merger between HEBS and the Public Health Institute of Scotland. The organisation gives leadership to the health education effort in Scotland and is responsible for the delivery of national programmes that seek to improve Scotland's health.

Scotland's NHS Boards and Primary Care Trusts support a wide range of services to treat those affected by drug misuse. These services are often delivered in partnership with other organisations, such as local authorities (eg rehabilitation),specialist addiction services (eg counselling and detoxification) frequently provided by voluntary sector bodies, and through contractual arrangements with General Practitioners and pharmacists (eg substitute prescribing).

Scottish Crime & Drug Enforcement Agency. The aim of the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency is to help prevent drug misuse and its consequences impacting on local communities in Scotland through programmes of information and community action achieved with the support of Scotland's business community. They also provide a drug education programme, which is available to all Primary 7 pupils in Scotland called Choices for Life.

Calls are free, confidential and cannot be traced. Crimestoppers supports the Scottish Police Service and the Scottish Drug Enforcement Agency in reducing the availability of drugs in Scotland.

Scottish Drugs Forum is the national non-government drugs policy and information agency working in partnership with others to co-ordinate effective responses to drug use in Scotland. It is the umbrella agency for all those concerned with tackling drug use in Scotland. SDF aims to support and represent at both local and national levels a wide range of interests, promoting collaborative, evidence-based responses to drug use.
